Chester’s Women Change Makers

Tommie Lee Jones

Tommie Lee Jones was a compassionate, committed, and driven leader for Chester city. She founded the Black Youth Society later known as Youth in Action. This program, that Jones dedicated so much of her time and effort into, was on behalf of the Chester Upland School District. The main goal was providing an alternative agency for disadvantaged youth to have access to education. This program founded by Jones has helped hundreds of children, providing them access to community service opportunities, recreational sports, scholarship funds, support networks, and many more fundamental resources. Jones was heavily involved with her community on numerous levels, also helping to run Summer Camp Programs and Food Banks. There has been a scholarship fund put forth in memory of Tommie Lee Jones and her husband Isiah A. Jones which continues to help low-income students to this day. Tommie Lee Jones’ legacy and impact on the youth of the Chester community lives on, and we can all learn a lesson from this valuable Woman Changemaker!
